It would be fun to have each of your students use the comment feature (pops out a comment to the right of the page) - or to have your students choose a different color of text and font, and respond to what was shared with them (they would do this at the bottom of the shared writing). That would be easy and provide them an opportunity to learn about responding and commenting. This could take one session.

Another idea I have would be to use Make Belief Comix and do some conversational writing. We might want one session to "play around" in make belief comix since it is multi-stepped. They could choose a 3 frame comic and feature only 1 character per frame (see attached example). After they have a session to learn about it and "play around", then the next session could be through Google Classroom. I would suggest that students pre-write their comic after they have had time to see what characters are available in the make beliefs program.
Students would start by creating a doc in google classroom, then create the comic in make belief comics, then screen shot it, then paste it onto their doc, and then share. It sounds like a lot, so we'd just have to see how far we get!
If you want to do this, let me know and I'll build the assignment in google classroom.

Students could write a Valentine's day poem... and then use the insert - drawings buttons, choose shapes - heart - and then color them in. Share and send to buddy.
Once again, an assignment would need to be made through google classroom. If you want help, let me know.

Students use Google docs to publish daily blogs while improving quality and quantity of writing. Students assume the persona of a real or imagined classroom pet and write a blog describing daily activities in the classroom. |

Using collaborative Google slides, students will create their own slides about an animal of choice and write about animal adaptations based on research, Include an animal name, where does it live, how big is it and how does it look, what are it's adaptations and why are they needed, image of the animal, food eaten and interesting facts. |
